Role overview
The job profile of an EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) Manager for Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) focuses on ensuring regulatory compliance, managing risks specific to MEP installations, and fostering a strong safety culture on project sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor site-specific EHS plans, policies, and procedures, ensuring alignment with corporate guidelines and legal requirements.
- Conduct thorough risk assessments (HIRA - Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment) and job hazard analyses (JHA) to identify potential dangers associated with MEP activities (e.g., electrical work, working at height, confined spaces, fire systems installation)
- Perform regular safety inspections and audits of all work locations, equipment (lifting tools, firefighting systems), and practices to ensure adherence to safety standards and codes. Oversee the investigation of accidents, injuries, and unsafe conditions, determining root causes and implementing corrective and preventive actions
- Prepare and maintain detailed documentation, including safety reports (daily, weekly, monthly), checklists, and permits-to-work (PTW) for high-risk jobs.
- Prepare and implement comprehensive waste management plans (solid, e-waste, biomedical, etc.) in compliance with relevant norms
- Organize and conduct EHS training programs, including safety inductions, toolbox talks, and mock drills for emergencies like fire, structural collapse, or electrical shock. Coordinate with project managers, clients, subcontractors, and external regulatory bodies to ensure seamless EHS integration and compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
Education: B.E. / B. Tech. or Diploma in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering with an additional qualification in Industrial Safety, such as ADIS (Advanced Diploma in Industrial Safety) or certifications like NEBOSH, IOSH, or OSHA.
Experience: 5 – 10 years of relevant experience of MEP projects in Pharma/ Cleanroom/ Li-Ion Battery / Solar/ Semiconductor industries shall be preferred
Knowledge: Strong understanding of national safety regulations, local codes, and international standards such as ISO 45001.
